Madame Alexander Dolls

She felt it was made in the late 50′s. It was made for her Cissy doll by a neighbor. The neighbor made the dress primarily from her own wedding dress. She had no children, and apparently was close to the little girl next door, so she made this amazing dress for her. I don’t know if she was a professional seamstress, but she certainly knew her stuff! The detail in this outfit just goes on and on! The dress and slip have been carefully cleaned and steamed/pressed. So, let’s start with the dress. The dress is satin and it has seed pearl encrusted appliques sewn on it. The dress is not a bright white but has turned a soft ecru color with age. The satin is in pretty nice condition for being 60 years old, with a few bruised areas to the fabric, but no major staining or holes. The bodice is heavily covered in seed pearls, string pearls, and lace. Look closely at the pictures and see the detailed buttonhole stitching that was sewn over every dart and seam of the bodice! Same detail at the sleeve edge. The bodice closes with loops and small buttons and a metal zipper. The bodice fits Cissy absolutely perfect. The skirt of the dress is expertly darted and pleated to accommodate the large wire and horsehair made cage underslip. The back has a long train of looped ribbon. Lace is sewn in layers around the hem. The slip is made of heavy white polished cotton. It is simple in style, but not design. It too is expertly designed to fit over the cage underslip. Note the detailed gussets sewn into the back of the slip. And then, there are 29.5 yards of lace around the bottom! The slip is pretty enough to display by itself! The wired underslip is a work of art in itself. It is the only item I did not hand wash, as the cage is actually made of wire covered with thread and I was afraid the wire would rust. There are a few small rust spots on the part that goes around her waist, but of course, none of that shows when on a doll. The cage is held on with 2 snaps and a ribbon tied around her waist. The wire has become bent and twisted a bit from age and storage, but although it is not the prettiest part of the ensemble, it is workable to make the dress stand out exactly where it is supposed to. The cage also has a nylon puckered bustle sewn across the back. The veil has a heavily encrusted headpiece of pearls, looped satin cording, and lace. It fits my Cissy doll with the updo beautifully. However, the doll that it came with had the shorter Cissy type of casual hairdo. It still looked lovely on her too. The tulle of the veil is in nice condition. The ensemble will also come with a pair of pink Cissy panties. They have new elastic and some repair done at the leg edge. A newly made blue garter, some vintage Cissy nylons, a pearl necklace and a pair of plastic shoes with satin ribbons decorating them. A new bouquet was also made for Cissy with vintage flowers. (stand nor doll are included). This wedding outfit is so unique. I hope someone can envision their beautiful Cissy doll decked out with this gown fit for a queen! Vintage Madame Alexander 14in Sonja Henie Doll Olympic Skater Composition Original Dress. Original antique Sonja Henie Olympic ice skater doll, made by Madame Alexander, circa 1935. Stands approximately 14 tall with a composition head & jointed body. Will need to be restrung as the stringing loose. Her face and body overall has crazing from age. Full lashes, eyes are a little blurry. Dress is marked and doll has her original hand tag. I cannot tell if her head is marked due to the way the wig is glued low by the edge of her head. Outfit appears clean but feathers seem to easily fall off easily as they are very soft from age. Overall the doll is very delicate and needs to be handled with care.
