7 and a half inch tall Dionne Quintuplets from 1934. All with original clothing, Dr. Dafoe with socks and shoes. Quintuplets have their original gold name pins. The Dionnes were identical quintuplet sisters born in Canada in 1934. All original appendages included. Three of the quintuplets will require internal re-stringing. The Dionne quintuplets (French pronunciation: [dzjn]; born May 28, 1934) are the first quintuplets known to have survived their infancy. The identical sisters were born in Canada, just outside Callander, Ontario, near the village of Corbeil. All five survived to adulthood. The Dionne girls were born two months premature. After four months with their family, they were made Wards of the King for the next nine years under the Dionne Quintuplets’ Guardianship Act, 1935. The government and those around them began to profit by making them a significant tourist attraction in Ontario. The identical quintuplet sisters were, in order of birth. Yvonne Édouilda Marie Dionne. Annette Lillianne Marie Allard. Cécile Marie Émilda Langlois. Émilie Marie Jeanne Dionne. Marie Reine Alma Houle. Doctor Allan Roy Dafoe OBE was a Canadian obstetrician, best known for delivering and caring for the Dionne quintuplets, the first quintuplets known to survive early infancy. Dafoe was born in Madoc, Ontario, the son of a physician. He trained in the same profession and, in early 1909, he went into practice in Callander, Ontario, where he resided for the rest of his life. On 28 May 1934 he assisted in the multiple births of the Dionne family, that saw the survival of the mother and all the children. This got international press notice. He continued to help care for the children for years, and became something of a celebrity in the onslaught of media attention. The government of Ontario gave Dr. Dafoe full guardianship of the quintuplets. Dafoe And The Nurse (Who Took Care Of The Dionne Quintuplets). The dolls have very nice composition with some light crazing. Dafoe has painted eyes and the nurse has working eyes, not crackled. The height of the doctor is 14″ and the nurse is 13″. The doctor and the nurse dolls are not marked and their clothes are not marked. The blush color is on the knees, elbows, and top of their hands. The shoes, socks, and nurses hat (all original) were not taken off by me. The nurse has a one piece outfit with skirt, and the doctor has a one piece with a top. The dolls have stringing that has stretched over the years. She told me when she was 4 years old. She was sick with scarlet fever. She received the dolls and was not allowed to play with them. Small crack on inside upper arm. Small paint rub on back of left leg and left rear. Nose of glasses looks bent but, I believe that was the way they were made. Slight crazing on face. Light stains on hat. Small black spots on back of skirt. Tiny stain on front of skirt. Light stain on back collar and left sleeve. Right eye lid has missing paint. They come from a smoke free home. Be sure and check out all 12 pictures and. Ask questions if you have any. The item “Dionne Quintuplets Dr. Dafoe Nurse Dolls Composition Vintage” is in sale since Saturday, December 03, 2016. Defoe and one of his Dionne Quints. Some books spell his name “Dafoe”. Allen Defoe was the doctor who took care of the Dionne Quints in the 1930′s after they were born in Canada. This composition doll is in amazing condition, as is the quint. Defoe is marked on his back and wears a one piece pants/shirt with a doctor’s shirt over top. These clothes are all original and correct and in excellent condition with no stains, holes, or odors. I have seen a couple of other outfits for this doctor, and this one is found in the Judd’s book “Composition Dolls”. His composition is in excellent condition with no repairs. I cannot find any craze lines and no cracks or breaks. His original facial coloring and wig are excellent as well. He has original stringing that is a little loose, but he still poses in a stand. He wears his original socks and shoes as well. The little Quint is just darling and also in excellent condition with no cracks and I can’t find any significant crazing on her either. She is wearing a onesy that I don’t think is MA. Her wig is original and beautiful as is her wonderful facial coloring. She came to me with the ribbon in her hair so I left it in as it looks so cute. What a wonderful pair to add to your collection! Take a look at all my Alexander and other vintage doll listings this week. Please take a look at all the pictures as they are an important part of the description. Thanks for looking and Good Luck!
