Vintage 1935 Alexander Dionne Quints Quintuples Toddlers 8 Doll Set in Basket. Scroll down for larger views. She was an only child who had wonderful dolls, carefully stored for many years. This is the set of Dionne Quintuplet Toddler Dolls, made around 1936, marked: Alexander on their backs. Made by Madame Alexander. Each doll is 8” high, all composition, jointed at the neck, shoulders, and hips. The dolls have adorable faces, with bright coloring, original paint, painted brown side-glancing eyes, painted lashes & brows, red lips, and still rosy cheeks. The paint is excellent and there is no crazing or other issues on the faces. Each wears her original brunette mohair wig, still in the original set. The wigs are soft & clean, without missing or cut pieces. The bodies are also excellent. They have straight legs with cute toddler bodies. The paint is bright, with no re-paint or touch-ups. The knees and hands are still rosy. One doll has two small spots of chipped paint on the back of one foot, a second doll has a tiny paint rub on two finger tips. Otherwise all seem to be as they should. They have also been re-strung. The dolls come in their original hard-to-find wicker Picnic Basket with hinged lid, four metal fasteners and two handles (12 x 15” x 7.5” high when closed). It’s in nice shape with the original pink ruffled pillow inside the basket. The other side has the clothing, but no liner. Just a light water stain on the pillow. Included in the Basket: All 5 tagged organdy dresses and 4 matching organdy bonnets, 3 white organdy petticoats w/panties, 4 cotton pique rompers and all five matching bonnets, all five knit swimsuits (dolls are wearing these in photo), 5 flannel nightgowns (4 are pink, 1 is blue), 9 white oilcloth center-snap shoes, and 2 brass name pins (Cecille & Annette). The organdy dresses & bonnets are in very good to excellent condition. The petticoats/panties are fine, one has a little stain. The rompers & bonnets are in good to very good condition with only minor wear. The knit swimsuits are in good to very good condition. The flannel nightgowns are fine. The shoes do have play wear. Two shoes have a broken snap. The pins are in very good condition. It is rare to find this set in such excellent condition, with no hint of crazing. The clothing is also clean and unfaded. Madame Alexander dolls, the complete set of the five Dionne Alexander composition 7 1/2 baby dolls, circa 1936 Composition dolls. They are molded and have glancing brown eyes with eyelashes, eyebrows, natural looking hair and close bee sting mouths. They are named Emelie, Annette, Marie, Cecile and Yvonne. They have swivel heads and five piece baby bodies. They each have all their fingers and toes with no repairs or repainting. All the clothes are original, some with original tags and shoes and socks too. On the back of their heads are raised letters that say Dionne and Alexander. On their backs in raised letters say Alexander. I have added newer metal name tags so you will know them apart. They come in their original basket with their original pink blanket, very old also. I have enjoyed them for many, many, many years. I think they will make you smile as they are quite cute. They have been stored in my curio as dust and odors are not an issue. They were given to her as a gift, when she was 13 years old, in the 1930′s. She felt she was much too old to play with dolls, and they were put away in the attic; so, they are completely original, and have only been removed for cleaning. They have been stored all this time and have suffered a little age related wear, to the clothing and basket; but, still in pretty good condition. Everything is as follows. 8 Composition Dolls- Have been lightly cleaned. The composition is in amazing condition, for the age, and having been stored for so long. Dolls still have their original face paint and blushed cheeks, elbows, and knees. There is very minimal paint loss, to the painted hair, from storage. The dolls have very little crazing. The original stringing is stretched and they will need to be re-strung. Original Wicker Basket-The basket does show storage wear, the wicker is very dry. I have put the handles back on with cotton string and never recommend picking it by those handles. Brass & Leather closures still work. Basket Interior-The pink satin pillows, w/ lace trim, are still intact, on the bottom and inside top. Clothing-I carefully hand-washed all pieces. A couple of the Romper sets will need repair to the organza collars and satin ribbon ties replaced, on the bonnets. The Party Dresses are in good condition, with just a little staining; but, I was afraid to get too aggressive, in my washing. Also, the matching Bonnets will need the satin ribbon ties replaced also, if desired. Their oil cloth shoes are largely in good condition and only 3 need repair, where the snap pulled away from the straps. All nylon socks are in good condition. Dolls & Clothing are marked “Alexander” and the original hang-tag, is still present. They are a lovely find and a bonus to any collection. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. Very beautiful set of 1935 Madame Alexander 7 Dionne Quintuplets with molded hair and painted faces. Their arms, legs, and heads are all jointed. The stringing is nice and tight. The dolls are not at all “floppy”. They come in their original wicker basket with peach satin bedding, pillow and mattress pad. Each is wearing one of 5 matching satin peach one piece outfits with crocheted lace trim. Also included are 5 flannel robes and 5 bibs embroidered with the Quints names Emelie, Yvonne, Cecile, Marie, and Annette and a vintage white and pink blanket. Each doll is marked “ALEXANDER” on the back of both the head and body. These have been lovingly stored for many, many years in the home of the original owner (my mother-in-law). Not in the hot attic or in the cold damp basement but always with her. There are no odors of any kind. She says the dolls, basket, outfits, pillow and mattress pad all originally came together. Later she added the flannel robes and blanket, and just a few years ago she bought the newly made bibs with their names for them. The dolls are in nearly excellent condition with no composition crazing. One doll has some rough composition on her arm and shoulder. They do have a few paint mars and scratches, but not many. One has a reddish brown tiny spot about 1/16th inch on the back of her leg. There are also a few dimples, or indents that seem to be marks left behind from the manufacturing process. Please use the magnifying photo feature to see their condition and if you would like more pictures than I could fit in please let me know. The wicker of the basket is in pretty sturdy shape for its age. The lid is no longer attached, and the leather strap fasteners no longer work, but the handle on top is fine. She even saved the few little pieces of wicker that have snapped off. They are in a tiny baggie inside the basket. The pink satin lining is trimmed with white lace but the satin has some water stains on it. This set was played with she says. The pillow and mattress pad have some tiny holes. The 5 peach outfits are all in Very Good condition with no holes, stains, or tears.. But they do have a little minor fraying at seam edges. The bibs are brand new and crisp and have never even been tied on the dolls. The flannel robes are also good but one has some spots on the arm that I didn’t try to wash but it looks like they will come out with a light soak. The yellow robe has a little unraveling at the back of the neck. Of the 2 books included, one, copyrighted in 1935 has many pictures of the quints as babies, and gives much information about the babies growth and how they were raised. The other book, copyrighted in 1938 shows pictures of the quints playing at toddler and preschool ages set to popular nursery rhymes of the period. Both books are in nice condition. They have wear marks on the cover, binding and edges, but the pages are not brittle and there is no musty smell. This is a wonderful strung 1953 first year Madame Alexander Quiz-kins-Yes & No Nodder Doll. She is in beautiful condition with original triple stitched brunette wig in long curls, excellent bright natural face coloring with brown brows, light green brown eyes that open and close freely, black under lashes, pink cheeks with no scuffs or touch-ups and bright red lips. Her body is in excellent tightly strung condition, arms hold a pose. Alex is wearing her tagged yellow cotton dress with square snaps and black flower print pinafore, Alex-kins fuzzy bottom black side snap shoes, some wear with rayon socks. Dress is in excellent clean condition. Cute Alex-kins hat completes her outfit. Great 1953 Quiz Alex-kins which dont come around often in this lovely condition.
