1930′s Alexander Doll Co. Antique PRINCESS ELIZABETH 24 all composition strung. This very well cared for antique composition doll is in excellent condition. This “Little Flower Girl” has spent 50 of her 80+ years displayed on her stand, in a glass cabinet (smoke free environment). Let’s look at any problem areas first. There is some normal age related crazing on her head, upper body, and limbs. Please enlarge photos to examine. Her upper legs have some wear & her left upper lashes have some thinning & a small missing “clump” of hairs. Lower lip has two small nicks in the lipstick. Her human hair wig is shedding a bit when brushed, but the hair is clean and very full. The wig itself has a lose edge that will be simple to reglue. She is strung, but it has loosened over the years. She can be posed but may need a tighter stringing after getting settled in her new home. This huge doll 24! No cracks, breaks or missing parts. The composition colouring is even throughout her entire body. All fingers/toes are there with no chipping amazing! , and no chips in facial areas (left eye as noted). Her facial makeup is still clear, bright & Rosie. Her beautiful sparkly clear blue eye close when asleep and open wide when awake. Full lashes on the right. Left side noted above. She has an open mouth with red lips, a visible tongue and 4 perfect white teeth. She is wearing a 50+ year old custom made Flower Girl gown with matching onesie and attached full petticoat slip, and we believe she is wearing her original pink leather button shoes with vintage white stockings. “STORY PRINCESS” ZCMI DEPARTMENT STORE EXCLUSIVE Wearing Tagged Dress, all original, hang tag, floral head-piece & wand!! Read the entire listing!! Name: Madame Alexander “Story Princess” Wearing her original outfit & accessories Style : Straight arms & legs, strung body and limbs- moderately tight and can hold a pose Size : Approximately 14 Edition : 1948 ZCMI advertised welcoming back the Story Princess radio show to FM broadcasting station 100.3 in 1947, doll’s release was likely tied into this event in the Salt Lake City Utah market. Doll was carried by or exclusive to the ZCMI department stores. Information was gathered from a couple of online sources- copies of these sources will be sent with the doll. Wig : Brunette Mohair type wig in original set, very nice condition. Pictures I have seen online of this doll are somewhat more dark brown; due to vintage conditions, the color may have lightened a bit and caused a very slight reddish look- it is only slight but worth mentioning. The color is consistent all over. The floral head-piece is also in very good condition with only minor signs of normal age wear and slight discolorations. Please note: the headpiece, tag and wand will all be separately boxed to avoid any damage, the stick pin that holds the floral head-piece in place will remain in the doll’s wig. Eyes/Head : Her sleep eyes with lashes work fine and nicely painted facial features are clear and crisp- NO wear. Body : Good vintage condition with no major issues; as to be expected with similar aged items. Stockings and shoes were not removed to avoid any damage. The dress is an off-white /ivory in color, and has a layer that has become unsewn and there are areas that shown wear to the fragile organza tiered layers (I have photographed a few for reference). The satin like undies have a small mark and the elastic is only a little loose, the snap is intact as well as all of the snaps on the dress. Her shoes have both bows and they are slightly discolored from age. NO ODORS Please see pics as they are as important as the written description in determining condition. ONLINE RESOURCE INFO: Cited from online source, info is to help explain the doll’s possible origin. “The 14″ Story Princess was an exclusive by the Alexander Doll Company for the ZCMI Department Stores based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Both were owned by the LDS Church. The doll came in the stores classic gold box with the Alexander Doll Company label on the underside of the boxes lid. The doll also includes the special ZCMI hang tag, announcing that the Alexander Doll Company has made The Story Princess exclusively for the department store, with the radio station and time of the radio show included. Either included with the doll or kept by the original owner, there is a publicity photograph of the KSL Radio Station Show Princess in her costume, which includes her magic wand, which is also include with the doll. This is a very rare example of the exclusives the Alexander Doll Company did for different stores across the story. While New York based FAO Schwarz is the best known, so many other stores worked with Alexander on their own exclusives. Sometimes this meant a variation of fabric colors or trims. In this case, the doll is unique to the retailer which in turn is unique to the community and state it served. The doll appears to be a very early hard plastic doll right at the transition from composition to hard plastic around 1947 or 1948. This would correspond to the new format the station took. The station’s owners made their initial foray into FM broadcasting in 1947 when they brought the original KSL-FM onto the then sparsely-populated FM dial at 100.3. With their then brand new beautiful music format, they were unique for the time in the radio industry. In 1948 ZCMI advertised “ZCMI Welcomes Back the Story Princess”. Tying these events together, it could be very likely the doll was commissioned to take advantage of the different elements related to each other. This doll is truly beautiful and can be proudly displayed! I welcome all questions and additional information. Vintage Madame Alexander composition doll. Stunning doll but not mint! Personally, I would say very good condition but when you pull out the fine tooth comb there are flaws with her being 70 some odd years old (we all have them haha), Owner did have minor crazing repair done and re-stringing, it’s been many years (she tells me back when yahoo groups were all the rage)! Stringing is still very good! Her coat and bonnet have the flaws, the lining on the coat is torn and the bonnet has a small hole in the back and fading. I pictured all the flaws I found so take a good look at each picture. The only thing I didn’t get to upload due to the picture limit was the bottom of her shoes the soles are here but are worn, message me if you would like the picture of them. Doll had been kept in a large display cabinet for the later part of her life but her early life she was held and loved. So, in short if you are looking for perfection this is not the doll for your collection, If you are looking for a beautiful vintage doll with quirks, this girl may be a perfect addition to your collection. I know it is just so hard to visualize the size/girth of a doll with just regular measurements so I thought this. 16oz Cola bottle, like the kind from a vending machine. It is not included.
