Madame Alexander Dolls

Defoe and one of his Dionne Quints. Some books spell his name “Dafoe”. Allen Defoe was the doctor who took care of the Dionne Quints in the 1930′s after they were born in Canada. This composition doll is in amazing condition, as is the quint. Defoe is marked on his back and wears a one piece pants/shirt with a doctor’s shirt over top. These clothes are all original and correct and in excellent condition with no stains, holes, or odors. I have seen a couple of other outfits for this doctor, and this one is found in the Judd’s book “Composition Dolls”. His composition is in excellent condition with no repairs. I cannot find any craze lines and no cracks or breaks. His original facial coloring and wig are excellent as well. He has original stringing that is a little loose, but he still poses in a stand. He wears his original socks and shoes as well. The little Quint is just darling and also in excellent condition with no cracks and I can’t find any significant crazing on her either. She is wearing a onesy that I don’t think is MA. Her wig is original and beautiful as is her wonderful facial coloring. She came to me with the ribbon in her hair so I left it in as it looks so cute. From our special family collection, this gorgeous Cissette doll by Madame Alexander has never been played with or displayed. She has always been stored in her original box. She is in excellent condition. From my brief research, I have found that this doll is from 1959, and her number is #722. Doll stand is not included. The box has some age discoloration. Cissette 722 ALEXANDER DOLL COMPANY, N. The colors of dress and hair are marked on the box as “ACQUA” and TOSCA. Because of the shape of a spot of discoloration on the label, it appears that there was once a price sticker on the box. On that spot of discoloration… My husband’s grandmother and two aunts collected many lovely dolls and displayed some of them. This particular Cissette we found stored away with others who appear to have never been even displayed. One remaining aunt is now ninety-five years old and resides in a special memory care unit. At this time we are utilizing some of her “treasures” to help provide the unique care she requires. We are looking for new homes for some special dolls where they will be loved and cared for. This Cissette’s hard plastic body is jointed at the neck, shoulders, hips, and knees. She is somewhat loose but still holds a pose. Her strawberry blonde hair is in the original set… Parted in the middle with bangs and shoulder length curls. Her back curls are somewhat flattened from positioning in her box. Cissette’s pretty blue sleep eyes are very clear and function properly, and her molded lashes are intact. She has a flawless complexion and beautiful facial coloring. Her hands and fingers and feet and toes are quite detailed, and she stands 9 1/2 inches tall. Cissette is wearing her original clothing which has never been removed. Her sleeveless dress of aqua and white polka dot polished cotton has a portrait neckline with a wide white “Bertha” collar and gathered skirt. The lace in rows on the collar matches the white lace at the armholes, and a hot pink velvet ribbon bow accents the beautiful collar. The bodice is darted in the front and closes in the back with three small snaps. Under her dress, Cissette is wearing white taffeta panties with elastic waist and narrow white lace and pink satin ribbon bows at the legs. Her flock-dotted organdy half slip has a wide elastic waistband, scalloped edging and is accented with a small blue velvet flower bouquet on the front. On the dress tag… “Cissette” C MADAME ALEXANDER NEW YORK, U. On the slip tag… The blue writing on the slip tag is slightly lighter than on the dress tag. Black strappy high-heel sandals and nude stockings along with a lovely white wide-brimmed straw hat and white drop pearl earrings complete Cissette’s ensemble. The hat is accented with pretty pink and white flowers with yellow centers, along with some green leaves and a white hat pin. One of the earrings, setting and pearl, is discolored.
