Madame Alexander Dolls

Wonderful set of Dionne Quintuplets dating from the 1930s when the girls were at their most famous and the whole world was fascinated. The perfect set to grace any doll collection. I have been told that the maker was Madame Alexander however I cannot see any markings to this effect. They are however very rare and precious. Condition – All of the girls have suffered from crazing to their composition which you would expect given their age. They all have little painted faces and their legs cross over like little newborns. They have all had little outfits handmade for them and have been lovingly looked after by their little owner. The babies are in a wicker basket with little cots fashioned for each of them with tiny quilts and pillows. At the bottom of their cribs there is a section for their clothes and accessories. There are various little belongs in each of these sections. At the bottom of their cribs is homemade name tags for each baby which have been pinned in place. Yvonne, Annette, Marie, Cecille and Emille. Their basket has been well preserved along with the contents but condition is consistent with the age of this rare piece. They are extra charming as you can tell that they were very much loved and their little owner must have had the most amazing fun with them. I travel all over on my quest, my trouble is I find it hard to part with most of my finds, having said that needs must and all that so keep checking in for my latest delights. These “Dionne Quintuplet” dolls were made by Madame Alexander in the 1930′s!! They are the rare-hard to find 10 composition dolls that have the movable joints. They have the original dresses and bibs with their names-each with their own color weaved in!! The underwear and slips may also be original, but I’m not sure on that! They are marked Madame Alexander on their upper backs and “Dionne” on the back on the neck accept for Emilie-just marked Madame Alex. There are many photos of the actual quints in this book! The dolls have incurred damage, being over 80 years old!! The hair was repainted on two of them where the paint had rubbed off. Some of the heads have some cracking and crazing and there is paint loss and cracking in various areas. The stringing on each is intact!! All of their eyes still open and close! I’ll describe in detail each doll, and you can visibly see in the photos most of it. “Annette”-paint is worn off some in the back of her hair, slight crazing on her head, finger tips worn, paint off big toes and some on legs. “Cecile”-hair has been repainted, paint loss on back of head and neck and ear. Some rubs and paint off toes and fingers and nose. Vertical cracks in eye sockets. “Emilie”-pretty good shape-just a little paint off back of hair on neck, little cracking on toes. “Marie”-light surface crack on one side of face and one on top of head, crazing behind left ear, 1 crack in eye socket. “Yvonne”-has repainted hair and major crack in the head that looks repaired-it’s stable. Lots of paint loss around back of head, some on the arm, legs and toes, as well as tip of nose. Please feel free to request more pictures of any of the dolls, as I could only post 12 pics. Dafoe And The Nurse (Who Took Care Of The Dionne Quintuplets). The dolls have very nice composition with some light crazing. Dafoe has painted eyes and the nurse has working eyes, not crackled. The height of the doctor is 14″ and the nurse is 13″. The doctor and the nurse dolls are not marked and their clothes are not marked. The blush color is on the knees, elbows, and top of their hands. The shoes, socks, and nurses hat (all original) were not taken off by me. The nurse has a one piece outfit with skirt, and the doctor has a one piece with a top. The dolls have stringing that has stretched over the years. She told me when she was 4 years old. She was sick with scarlet fever. She received the dolls and was not allowed to play with them. Small crack on inside upper arm. Small paint rub on back of left leg and left rear. Nose of glasses looks bent but, I believe that was the way they were made. Slight crazing on face. Light stains on hat. Small black spots on back of skirt. Tiny stain on front of skirt. Light stain on back collar and left sleeve. Right eye lid has missing paint. They come from a smoke free home. These dolls are from an estate where the owner collected very nice and hard to find dolls. The five Quints are complete and all original. They all have their original center snap shoes and socks. Each has its own attached name pin. They all have their own colored romper with matching bonnet and ribbon. Yvonne has a small amount of paint missing on the right eye and her outfit appears to have been. The other dolls outfits are not laundered. Each romper has the original tag still attached.
