Made in the United States, this doll is a piece of history in the world of classic doll collecting. You will be purchasing this doll “as is”. There are imperfections- the dress lightly stained. She has been carefully cleaned up, and her leaking body has been recovered with new muslin, and her bisque arms and legs have been cleaned and tightened. Her blonde human hair wig has been cleaned and styled back into its coils. She has been carefully examined, and there appears to be no chips, cracks, or hairlines in either the shoulder head or any of the appendages. This is an unmarked antique bisque shoulder head doll, and all of the bisque pieces appear to be original to the doll. As mentioned previously, the doll was recovered, but the body was not replaced. In our research, such solid dome bisque head dolls could date as far back as the 1850s! However, this doll more than likely dates to around the time period of the 1880s to 1890s. That still makes her over 140 years old. I hope I look that good! And she is a beauty! Her little face is highly colored with bright blue intaglio eyes that are high-lighted with brown outlines at the top. Her cheeks are rosy, and her lips are a tiny elongated heart shape. She wears a blonde wig fashioned in braided coils and fixed with pearl topped pins. She is wearing a Madame Alexander red and white diagonal striped dress with a triangular shaped white bodice with three tiny black buttons on it and trimmed with tatted white lace. While the top and sleeves of the dress are fitted, the skirt is very full and aided by the crinoline she wears beneath it. She also wears white pantalettes. To complete her outfit, the doll has a large straw hat, decorated with red ribbons and flowers, which attach to her head with a pearl topped hat pin. This is an unusual and rare doll, certainly a collector’s dream!
