Vintage 1950s Madame Alexander 20 Cissy Doll Blond in Tagged Queen Costume. Pretty Nineteen-fifties Madame Alexander 20 Teenage Cissy doll in an original costume. Cissy is made of hard plastic with vinyl arms. She is jointed at the neck, shoulders, hips and knees. She is strung tight so she can hold a pose. Her knees and hips bend easily. She has pierced ears. Her elbows are not jointed. She has working clear yellow and blue sleep eyes with thick lashes, light painted lower lashes, single stroke eyebrows, tiny amounts of upper eye shadow, pouty lips, lightly blushed cheeks and no body blush. Her queen costume is in good condition and includes the gold brocade gown with medals and blue satin sash, one glove, a bracelet, very full, layered petticoat, hosiery, white elastic heels. Missing her other glove and panties. On the back of her head, Cissy tag inside the gown. I have been told – doll has a “musty” smell. I have a very poor sense of smell – so I don’t smell it. Cissy is in fair, played with condition. This doll has some flaws: eyes are turning yellow from blue, some lashes missing in the center and skin tone is blotchy. Her good points are that she appears to be substantially original because I found other dolls on line, dressed in the Queen costume who also had pierced ears and arms without bending elbows. Her other good point is that her legs pose and bend easily – rare – legs are usually stiff. However, one knee is swingy and does not lock in place – the other knee does lock. Er eyebrows look like they might possibly be re-painted – just not sure. Wig is thick, in original set with a lot of fly-aways, ends are frizzy and wig fabric is showing under the pony tail. Perfect fingers and toes. But no blush on the backs of the hands or knees. Skin tone is clean but blotchy and not even toned. Her arms and head are darker and her torso is lighter than the rest of her. Arms are firmly attached and pose well. Head is firmly attached, sits upright and poses well. Hard plastic body is clean and free of chips, chews or deep scratches. No crotch split, one repaired knee crack and one small 1/4 hip crack. Knee and hip joints bend nicely. Costume is in fair to good condition. Gown closes with working square snaps and has a “wear tear” at the base of the V of the neckline. It also has a seam rip on one side of the bodice that does not go through to the lining – so it is hard to see. One glove is missing. Elastics on bracelet and shoes are stretched out. This is a Rare 1939 Madame Alexander Carmen Doll Composition 15 Inch in Original Costume. This rare 1939 all composition strung doll is marked Alexander to the back of her neck, and her clothing is tagged Carmen. This doll was made to capitalize on the popularity of singer/actress Carmen Miranda. She has the Wendy face and is a rare and hard to find doll. For reference, please see Rare and Hard to Find Madame Alexander Collector Dolls by Barbara Jo McKeon, page 23. Her stringing is tight and she poses nicely. There is little to no composition crazing and she has all her face paint and fur eyelashes. Her original clothing has some tan aging to her pink satin sleeve and the front of her peplum as well as the beautiful lace apron and pleated organdy skirt ruffle. She is wearing a stiff petticoat and white satin panties underneath the skirt, as well as red side snap shoes trimmed with red bows. Her Carmen hat is trimmed with flowers and fruit. 13 inch Wendy Ann produced circa 1935 by Madame Alexander. She is a beautiful doll in excellent condition. Also included is her box. This doll has not been played with, and if she was ever displayed, it was done with great care. Wendy Ann is an all composition doll with a socket head, jointed at the shoulders and hips. She has brown sleep eyes, human hair lashes.. (all are there)dark eyeshadow, a bow shaped mouth and an ash blonde human hair wig with original curls. She is marked on her back “Wendy-Ann, Mme-Alexander”. The clothing Wendy Ann is wearing is mint and all original. It consists of blue and white organdy dress with white lace/eylet trim and accented with 2 bottoms, a blue straw hat, her original cotton slip and panties. She also has white socks and cream colored leather side snap shoes with bows. All the clothing is crisp and bright. Only small amount of crazing.. I LIKE HAPPY COLLECTORS! My photos don’t do her justice! Beautiful face with nicely blushed cheeks and desireable “matte” finish complexion. She has more face coloring in person then photos show. Her eyes flutter open and shut with ease. Her honey blonde wig is in the original set / curly side pigtails. She looks equally sweet with or without a hat. BEAUTIFUL TAGGED pink dress with row after row of lace trim! HARD TO FIND PINK matching lace trimmed slip and white taffeta kin panties. Her costume is in excellent condition crisp and bright! White hat is a professionally made “replica” replacement, with vintage velvety flower cluster tucked loosely at side of dolls head. Perfect ivory side snaps and vintage socks. She’s a walker and her walking mechanism works perfectly. Dolls with this type of frilly “little girl” costume are impossible to find… !!!
