My best guess is the EARLY TAGS did not identify the outfits because Madame may have thought she would only make 18 Portrait Dolls: limited to 6 DESIGNS PER YEAR for the FIRST FIVE YEARS. But when the Portrait Dolls were so successful, she continued the line with 25 additional designs over the next 8 years! ALL RETIRED & RARE TO FIND IN THEIR COMPLETE ORIGINAL ENSEMBLES. Featured here is a lovely blonde Madame Alexander Portrait doll dressed in the Collectors United Convention Doll Bridal outfit, Forever Yours. The doll has full blonde hair and a pink complexion, pink cheeks, pink lips and painted fingernails. The Bride dress is pink and white and features a pink an white striped underskirt and very full cotton and tulle slip trimmed in pink ribbon and white patterned lace. The pantaloons have the same matching lace and pink ribbon. She wears white filmy stockings beneath her pantaloons and has white velvet boots with laced high tops on her feet. The dress features a lovely vintage square collar with pink trim, accented with a pearl stud. The dress features a white striped, scalloped over skirt trimmed in lace with long lapel like pieces that extend from the waist down over the skirt and feature the same pearl studs as is on the collar. Beneath is a very full pink and white striped circular skirt that snaps at the waist in back. It is separate from the dress. The dress has a wide white satin ribbon sewn to the waistline that ties at the back. The hat is a lovely, fussy bandeau in pink and white striped fabric, the same as the underskirt, with white satin ribbons and trim to match the dress, and pink and white roses with fussy tulle accents all way round the hat. Its elastics hold it on her head. This doll came to me with the green hair ribbon which I left in place under the hat, as it went well with the green leaves on the flowers on the bandeau. The flowers on the hat are one one large white satin rose and two beautiful tightly wrapped pink paper rosettes. In one hand, she carries a pink draw-string purse, with white satin bow and long white ribbon ties and a lovely long white silk tassel. In the other, she carries a bouquet of vintage flowers (MADE in JAPAN) — of vintage wired white blossoms, buds, green leaves and one large, central white rose. The bouquet is tied to her wrist with pink floral ribbon. This doll will come with a strand of choker length white pearls around her neck. These and the bouquet I added to her original outfit. This doll is tightly strung and holds poses well. She does not have a twist waist and she does HAVE FLEX KNEES but not flex elbows. I take great care to wrap and pack my dolls so that they do not get crushed or move around in transit. No props in the photos are included in this listing — only the dressed doll with her accessories. The doll stand is not included. My home is SMOKE FREE and PET FREE. Here’s a gorgeous and not often seen Madame Alexander Cissy Doll. She’s a 1961 Scarlett O’Hara Cissy from the Madame Alexander Portrait series. She comes wearing her original powder blue taffeta dress with jacket and matching bonnet. She has all of her original jewelry and accessories which include rhinestone earrings, rhinestone ring, rhinestone cameo necklace, rhinestone pocket watch pin, long black lace fingerless gloves and black velvet purse with sequins. She also comes with original panties and original petticoat/crinoline. Her high heel shoes and stockings are replacements. Her clothes are in very good condition. The only thing I see is a small stain at the top on the back of her panties near the elastic band and 2 tiny spots on the back of her skirt which are hidden in the folds of skirt. Hat and crinoline are in very nice condition. The tag is missing from her dress but it is an original outfit as seen in the last photo taken from the Cissy Files book, page 22. This doll has an enchanting face with beautiful complexion, blushed cheeks, and red lips. Her blue eyes open and close and all of her lashes are intact. Her pretty dark brown wig is in excellent condition and in its original style with upswept sides. She is a no-neck Cissy with the slender non-jointed arms. Her arms are strung perfectly, however, her head and legs are very loosely strung. Her body is in excellent condition except for a tiny crack at the very top of her right thigh which is hidden inside her torso. Her leg must be pulled out to see this. If you would like a picture of it please let me know. Her earrings were somewhat lose, therefore, I applied a little bit of glue to each post in order to secure them. Please note that in the nude picture of the doll there appears to be some darkness on her right leg. These are not marks. They are just shadows caused by the lighting and my camera. This lovely vintage doll is from Madame Alexander and was made in 1951. She represents Kathryn Grayson and is one of the Fashion Academy Mystery Portrait series dolls. She is made of hard plastic. Portrait series dolls were all exceptional and only a small number of each doll was made. She has elaborate “make-up” and facial paint – around the eyes, lashes with top eyeliner, bottom lashes and dramatic side lashes. She has lovely blushing and rosy full lips, blue eyes, and a very rare shade of red hair in her original set. Her bangs are straight, but her hair is combed back at the sides into captured rolls, with curls that tumble onto her shoulders. She has her original flowers in her hair. Her gown is truly outstanding with three layers in the skirt, a beautiful lacy bodice and rhinestones for sparkle. There is illusion tulle to her neck and a built in necklace. The outside layer of her skirt is tulle and quite crisp. Beneath that is another layer of very silky, soft tulle, and the final layer is cream satin that matches her underwear. She has her original underwear, stockings, garter, and center snap shoes. She has her original earrings and bracelet. Condition: Her outer tulle skirt is in good condition with a few small tears around the bottom. The soft, silky tulle inner skirt is damaged and has some small and some larger holes scattered throughout. The satin inner skirt is in quite good condition with only normal age 68 years! No significant stains or damages. The bodice is in excellent condition. Her face painting is beautiful, but please examine the photos carefully. They serve as the most complete description for this doll. Remember, the photos are often bigger than life size, and whatever small issues you might see definitely do not show when the doll is displayed. This doll definitely keeps Madame Alexander’s legacy of excellence burning bright! Her hand painted features are very sophisticated, as is her dress. I’m sure she could use a good cleaning after 68 years “shelf life”, but I will leave this to her new owner. The item “21 MME. 21-inch Madame Alexander Carmen from the Portrait doll Ladies of Fashion series first made in 1938 and again in post-war 1946. These dolls are famous for their hand-painted facial features: arched brows, black eyeliner, long painted lashes, blue eyeshadow above the eye and on the lids of the sleeping eyes and deep red lips. This lady also has a hand painted star beauty mark on her cheek. The dark brunette wig is styled with a thick braid atop her head and a bun at the nape of her neck. She wears her all original costume of a red dress with black lace trim, light pink cotton petticoat and matching pantie. Shoes are a matching red fabric. Bead and gold hoop earrings and fabric roses attached to the dress accessorize her outfit. Her black, not net mantilla is missing. The composition is in very good condition for one of these dolls which often have suffered over time. She only has fine craze lines on the face, some on the sides of the head, and deeper crazing on the leg. Please study the photos. 21 Madame Alexander 1946 Composition Portrait Scarlett O’Hara Original MA tag. 21 Madame Alexander 1946 composition Portrait series Scarlett O’Hara in wonderful vintage condition. Her hand painted facial features show arched brows, blue sleep eyes with blue green eye lids and mohair lashes, eye shadow and three long painted lashes at the outer corner of each eye. Her closed mouth has full red lips. Face paint is all original, no touch ups. The brunette mohair wig is in original set. She is wearing her original very full gown of rust bronze rayon fabric with zipper back and padded bosom. The gown features decorative bands of ribbon and fringe, an open weave black net bodice and lower sleeves tied with black velvet ribbon. At her throat is a pearl encircled red stone “brooch”. A very full petticoat with tiered ruffles and a feather boned hoop with eyelet edge holds out the fullness of the dress skirt. The petticoat has a cloth Madame Alexander tag. This is the only identification that these dolls had. The elegant bonnet shows Madame’s quality creative styling. The bonnet base is a white braid covered by a black netting veil and embellished with rose buds and ribbons. A elegant bow with long streamers ties under the chin. The white cotton stockings, eyelet trimmed pantalettes and the shoes are replaced with copies of the originals. Condition: the face shows one small split at the corner of one eye, and faint crazing. There is crazing on the torso, arms and especially the legs. Some areas have been filled and stabilized. Luckily a lady of the 1860s is clothed from head to toe so any condition issues are covered. There is some spotting on the skirt front which disappears in the folds, and a larger area on the side back(it looks worse in the pictures than it actually is). This is the 1967 Madame Alexander Renoir portrait doll. This is big sister. See the photo above to see big and little sister together. Big sister is a beautiful Madame Alexander portrait doll. Her brown eyes are set in such a way that she seems a bit mischievous. She may have a joke to tell. She is wearing a cheerful red taffeta hat with flowers, a sleeveless navy blue gown trimmed with lace, and over it, a tight cut jacket with lace-trimmed sleeves and a flower at the waist. If you have Marjorie Uhl’s book Madame Alexander’s Ladies of Fashion, a full description of her is found on page 125. One of the photos shows all that comes with her. Her hat and dress are original. The rest is replacement. Her new pearl earrings match the original. Her red sandals are Madame Alexander original, but the elastic has stretched. She has a new short crinoline petticoat that works well with her dress, new hosiery, and bloomers. She is in good condition except for some leg cracks as mentioned above, none of them dangerous. She has flawless eyes, her original complexion, and her hair in its original carefully pinned chignon.
