DIONNE QUINTUPLETS – VINTAGE COMPOSITION – COMPLETE SET OF FIVE. ALL ORIGINAL – CIRCA: 1935 – 1945. This doll is from a smoke free home and has no odors. This is a complete and original set of 5 Dionne Quintuplets. They are 8 inch toddlers. For reference see page #16 in’Doll Values’ 13th Edition by Linda Edward. I do not have their boxes. They are so cute – how can you not love them? Each has her original dress; diaper; underskirt; name bib; bonnet; and knit slippers. Each has a different color in the ribbon on the bonnet and slippers and name on bib. I had questioned the originality of the slippers but on careful examination; the ribbon on the slippers is the exact ribbon (color & stitching & color fading) that is on the bonnets. The color also matches exactly the names on their bibs. They are painted eye and molded hair. And of course, those brown side glancing eye’s. There is no repainting as examined by a black light. All have all their fingers. Two of them have a very tiny nose paint chip off (must have fallen at one point) and a third has crazing down the forehead. There is no crazing on the bodies. 7 and a half inch tall Dionne Quintuplets from 1934. All with original clothing, Dr. Dafoe with socks and shoes. Quintuplets have their original gold name pins. The Dionnes were identical quintuplet sisters born in Canada in 1934. All original appendages included. Three of the quintuplets will require internal re-stringing. The Dionne quintuplets (French pronunciation: [dzjn]; born May 28, 1934) are the first quintuplets known to have survived their infancy. The identical sisters were born in Canada, just outside Callander, Ontario, near the village of Corbeil. All five survived to adulthood. The Dionne girls were born two months premature. After four months with their family, they were made Wards of the King for the next nine years under the Dionne Quintuplets’ Guardianship Act, 1935. The government and those around them began to profit by making them a significant tourist attraction in Ontario. The identical quintuplet sisters were, in order of birth. Yvonne Édouilda Marie Dionne. Annette Lillianne Marie Allard. Cécile Marie Émilda Langlois. Émilie Marie Jeanne Dionne. Marie Reine Alma Houle. Doctor Allan Roy Dafoe OBE was a Canadian obstetrician, best known for delivering and caring for the Dionne quintuplets, the first quintuplets known to survive early infancy. Dafoe was born in Madoc, Ontario, the son of a physician. He trained in the same profession and, in early 1909, he went into practice in Callander, Ontario, where he resided for the rest of his life. On 28 May 1934 he assisted in the multiple births of the Dionne family, that saw the survival of the mother and all the children. This got international press notice. He continued to help care for the children for years, and became something of a celebrity in the onslaught of media attention. The government of Ontario gave Dr. Dafoe full guardianship of the quintuplets. Rare Antique DIONNE QUINTS 1936 Madame Alexander Quintuplets 7 Composition NM. Vintage Madame Alexander Dionne Quintuplets. All original composition dolls, 5 in their original boxes, boxes very good condition. All the dolls are in their complete tagged outfits. The sun suits, matching hat and shoes and socks. Each one has their metal tag in front with their names on it. Took pictures with sun suits down so you vacant see no crazing or cracking on the bodies. All jointed with mohair wigs. These dolls are in near mint condition from 1936. No cracking or crazing. Face paint and eye paint excellent. These dolls have only been stored and when handled only with gloves. Only one doll Annette has an issue with her left shoe. Snap is intact but off the shoe and seam in back coming slightly open in part of the seam. All their stringing is tight. Annette, Emile, Cecile, Marie, Yvonne. If you need more pictures ask as I loaded as many as I could. They come with 5 vintage books. Dionne Quintuplets picture album. Dionne Quintuplet 20 doll composition by Madame Alexander. The Dionne Quintuplets were born in Canada in 1935. Madame Alexander Doll Company made composition dolls representing the five girls in various sizes. I believe the 20 size is the largest and most rare size to find. This sweet girl can be whichever one of the quints you need her to be. She has been redressed in vintage clothes and looks very cute but can be dressed in an original dress you may have. She is inscribed Madame Alexander on her back and head. Please view the pictures for a detailed description and ask any questions you may have. The brown iris have been replaced professionally giving her a nice sparkle. I believe the wig to be original. Her joints are nice and tight to allow her to be posed. I see no major damage to mention. There is normal wear to the composition in the joints and could use a professional cleaning. I love this sweet toddler doll but she needs to be with her sisters in someones collection.
