This is Cissy by Madame Alexander, circa 1955,1956. Her Auburn hair is thick, shiny, and clean. Her face has full painted features, rose cheeks, full eyelashes with eyes that open and close as they should and is free of marks. Her body and limbs are also very nice with no cracks, breaks, or distracting marks or odors. Her head tilts and moves from right to left without difficulty. Her black Cissy tagged dress is in excellent condition and clean. Her dress, shawl, gloves, nylons, panties, slip, shoes are all original. No tears, stains, or holes. Inherited the doll from my grandmother who was original owner. Have another Cissy of the same vintage in sellers other items. We have no way to know if, when or how much that will be. This doll was originally a bride but she has lost her wedding gown so I have redressed her in a gown belonging to the 1955 Story Princess doll. The doll is in very good to excellent condition for her age. Her lovely medium blond wig is one of only two formal hairstyles made for the large Binnie doll and short of some flyaways, is in great condition and still has the curled bangs and most of the fine net snood. Her eyes are a lovely blue and her eyelids (are not scratched) and her eyes have all her lashes and open and close well. Her eyebrows are a bit faint but clearly visible. She also has a bit of a brown mark under her right eye which might come off but I didn’t try. She has no neck splits but she does have a crotch split which is so common to these dolls. If you put your nose up close to her leg joints and crotch split you can very faintly smell the odor that is so common with these dolls. I never smelled it until I took off her panties to check for the crotch split before listing her. She has one noticeable mark on her body near her top left thigh that is a bit of a scratch but other than that marks are from normal light play wear on her arms and legs. She walks like a champ and her head turns well. Her gown is from the 1955 Story Princess doll made exclusively for Montgomery Ward. It is tagged Madame Alexander. It is a peachy pink brocade and is hard to find. It is not lined, has a Madame Alexander tag and has been cleaned. It does have a few minor seam repairs that are nearly indistinguishable. The gown no longer had its flowers at the waist when I got it so I have pinned some vintage flowers there which you can replace easily if so inclined. The pink taffeta slip is handmade (but looks perfect with the gown) which has a band at the waist line and a snap to keep it closed. There is one small water type stain on the slip. The slip fits beautifully except the waist was sized for a slimmer doll, so someone added an extension piece to enlarge the waist. A talented seamstress should be able to repair this. She has original pale pink undies with somewhat stretched elastic. She is wearing a replacement vintage fur stole, a vintage simulated pearl doll necklace which has been tied on and a floral swag of vintage flowers has been pinned in her hair. Her shoes are not original and the right one has a sole which has lost the top layer and the heel so the bottoms of the two shoes do not match. There is a slight stain on one of the shoes. The shoes look fine from the top in that you can’t tell the heel is missing from one shoe. The snaps work well. She also comes with a Winnie Walker pale pink organza type dress with a crinoline underslip. The dress has lace on the front bodice and there used to be pearls on the bodice but they are long gone and there are tiny holes where they used to be. The first underslip has pink lace and it is attached to the undershirt/bodice. The pink organza dress is on top of it. There are three tiny pearl type buttons in the back and a tie that is tied in a bow. The undergarment has a tear near the left back armpit and in the front top of that armit. I have shown this in the picture above. The dress has a couple of faint stains on it – one is on the middle on the front – it is a little yellow. There is a little hole on the underskirt garment in the back near the butt. She also has a second crinoline type slip under the first one with white lace and pink ribbon through the lace. The outfit comes with white and pink socks Her dress is tagged in the back “Winnie Walker Madame Alexander New York, NY”. The dress and underslip are in fair condition. It is roughly 65 years old and shows wear and playtime. IMPORTANT: This doll is rare and hard to find and she is wearing a hard to find formal gown. Please understand both doll and outfit have been lightly played with. She is 65 years old and is not for the purist. I have tried to describe her to the best of my ability and list every flaw that I see. I have described this listing to the best of my ability. Keep checking back for more vintage. Here is a vintage Madame Alexander Cissy doll from 1958. She is very elegant, in mint condition and all original. This is a high-end very rare doll and one of the most sought after among vintage Cissy collectors who refer to her as Evergreen Cissy. The doll has never been touched. Cissys hair is rich and lustrous. The lovely burnished auburn wig is in its original formal set pulled up and back at the sides and falling into turned-under curls at the nape of the neck. Her face paint is lovely and totally original with no touch-ups and no repainting of any kind. Her eyes are crystal clear blue. I have many Cissy dolls that have had their blushing and hair re-done. They are lovely and I enjoy them, but having an all original doll that looks like it just came from the Alexander factory is a joy. It is difficult to believe that she is so mint and so pristine. Of special note, this doll is featured in Kiley Shaws book, The Cissy Files, on page 43. Cissys gown is spectacular, tagged and very rare. The bodice is constructed of dark green netting over an ivory organdy lining. Evergreen netting is gathered at the neckline to frame the dolls face beautifully. The neckline is further accented by ivory cabbage roses. The gowns skirt is constructed of gathered layers of evergreen netting over an ivory organdy under-skirt. This skirt is very full, keeping with the high standards that Madame Alexander used in those days to costume her elegant dolls. Yards of fabric were used to ensure fullness and a beautiful drape to the clothing. The gowns skirt also boasts a twinkling of rhinestones and ivory roses. Cissy wear the original slip and panties that came with the Evergreen Gown. The slip and panties are constructed with ivory taffeta. The slip has an evergreen ruffle to give further heft to the skirt. The elastic in the panties and slip has relaxed over the years. I ran a silk thread through the waistlines of both. Cissy also wears nylon stockings and brand new silver high heels with silver elastic. Cissys accessories include the Evergreen Gowns matching stole, diamond earring with a matching bracelet, and a new lovely rhinestone lucite evening purse. All Original 1939 New York World’s Fair 14 tall Miss America from Madame Alexander. She has the Betty face, which was very popular at the time. She is complete with her hat, original flag which is so fragile and her World Fair 1939 red, white and blue metal tag. She is dressed in her red and white stripped dress which has not faded in the least and her navy blue belt completes the dress. Under the dress is her nylon slip trimmed in lace. Her auburn mohair wig is in its original curled set with the barretts on either side of her head. This is one the rarest all original dolls in my collection. In the Cissy files book, it states that this outfit is a V-neck sun suit in a new design. Instead of smocking, these sun suits are fitted through the bodice and close in back with 3 snaps. They are trimmed at the neck and leg openings with rickrack. It also states that the outfit is a boxed extra and RARE.
