Madame Alexander 17 Little Women Doll, 1954

I received this doll for Christmas in 1954. It was a “Little Women” doll, but I can’t remember which sister it was supposed to represent…. I think it was Meg. I was not allowed to play with it. It sat on top of my dresser for many years and then in a box in a closet. The condition is amazing considering she is 60+ years old. There is slight discoloration on the body, but the arms and legs are still fairly tight and she holds a position with no problem. The hair is nearly perfect. The clothes are all original, with an attached tag on the dress. Her underpants are attached at the waist to the petticoat (it is one piece). The boning in the petticoat has gotten stiff so does not make a perfect circle, but the skirt still stands out well when she is dressed. Her dress has the original cotton sewn into the bodice to create breasts (see photo). Her nylon stockings are still good…. There is a hole in the foot of one but it does not show when she has her shoes on. The dress is about as perfect as you could expect and has been washed (the petticoat, too) because it smelled musty. Her black bonnet is a little discolored (the black has faded) and the elastic at the back is not tight, but it still looks ok. The hat originally had a pink feather and she had black lace half-gloves on when I got her, but unfortunately the feather and gloves are gone. Her face is beautiful. Her eyes open and shut when she is laid flat, and when she “walks”, her head moves from side to side. I believe she is rare. Someone from Australia informed me that this doll is not a Little Women doll. She says they only came in the 14 size. She said this doll is from the Madame Alexander Edwardian Glamour Girl 1953 series. I was only 8 years old when I got this doll and my mother always said it was a Little Women doll. I’m not sure but I wanted to add this information in case it is correct. The item “Madame Alexander 17 Little Women Doll, 1954″ is in sale since Sunday, January 22, 2017.
