18 VINTAGE COMPOSITION MADAME ALEXANDER JANE WITHERS DOLL. Her dress is tagged Madame Alexander New York, but does not have Jane Withers written on it. She does have crazing and some compo wear and paint loss. There is a chip on her neck. Her eyelashes have some loss and the eyes are not clear. 1937 18 VINTAGE COMPOSITION MADAME ALEXANDER JANE WITHERS DOLL. Various flaws going on with her including faded cracks on her face, visible crack on her neck, the gears holding her together show, Her hair has fallen off and there are cracks on her skull. A rarer doll in an unusual mid size. Should be in the home of a serious collector. ITEM SKU or Number. No seen crazing, hair intact. Tagged clothing, no wrist tag nor pin. NUMBER OF ITEMS OFFERED? Vintage/antique Jane Withers Madame Alexander doll circa 1937-39. Composition doll, open mouth, straight leg, working sleep eyes with eyelashes, painted single stroke brows and painted lower lashes. Jane Withers was a 1930s child actress, a contemporary to Shirley Temple. Madame Alexander did not secure the Shirley Temple endorsement, and instead opted to endorse Jane Withers. String has not been tightened but is stable, eyes make a soft thunk when they open and close. Inside her eyes may have age related color changes. Beautiful wig/hair like wine color. Original dress, bottom is wool plaid, top is white with short sleeve with a black vest which has white trim. I see no imperfections visible in her clothing. All under dress, socks and shoes are intact. Fingers are intact, did not remove shoes to check toes. No immediately seen crazing, cracks or other damage but I have not undressed the dol. This is a rarer sized, already rare doll. Overall good condition for her age with tagged dress. COMMENTS IN ALL OFFERS. Super nice 13″ MADAME ALEXANDER “JANE WITHERS closed mouth composition doll. This little gem is in exceptional condition for a composition doll. Under magnification she has some minor crazing on her right arm inside elbow and some slight craze on her left lower leg. Looks like she bonked her nose tiny nick under magnifier and her upper lip has a teeny tiny nick and craze line. Black line on side of nose is a mark not a craze. Her face is beautiful. Small nick on one finger and one toe. Her little hands show flesh color wear on fingertips. Her eyes are brown. They open and close well. Her hair is a wine color and is a bit wild. I believe her clothes and shoes are original. Dress on the top has a few pulls in the gauze and shows yellowing. Socks inside the shoes has staining. The elastic on on her undies has lost its stretch. Slip is attached to dress and is good. Her painted eyebrows and lower painted lashes show wear. One eyebrow is almost gone. Old Madame Alexander Baby Jane Doll from the 1930s. She has a mohair wig, sleep eyes with lashes and open mouth with teeth. Her face is very nice for her age. I found usual crazing (with magnifier), and only 1 small crack starting on her face as shown in pictures. She is a 16 strung composition doll. But needs to be restrung. She is marked Baby Jane Reg Alexander on her neck. She does have some paint loss in places, see pictures, and her eyes are crackled/crazed as shown. Very Nice Composition Doll. All composition doll with open mouth and teeth. Jane is simply charming! She is just so sweet! She is wearing her original organdy dress with cream lappets, smocked bodice, muslin slip and panties, socks, side-snap white shoes. She is showing a bit of age as her compo body does have very fine crazing (it is more noticeable in the close up pictures then in person). Hat is a replacement but looks adorable on her! Her original tagged dress needs some help: needs a good cleaning, it has age spots. It also has a hole/tear in the back, slip and onsie look good. Shoes and socks are also good for age. Pin has lost its luster and faded in spots. There is a chip under hear head at the neck opening (see pic). Her face looks great. It may look like it in the pics but that is just stray hairs! Her eye whites are a bit faded and do not close, they move just a tiny bit. Stringing is nice and tight. 15 composition Madame Alexander JANE WITHERS DOLL. 30′s era era. Restoration information is in the text Below. Make sure to READ it as the information explains the details and represents part of the overall description. When restoring these 75 year old + dolls, great care is taken in having them look like they did when they were mint & new. Color is vibrant, Finish is satin, features are complete and great effort has been taken to replicate the originality from the factory. Hard to find mid size. Jane has her original Mohair wig. Her sleep eyes are clear with the exception of a line in the right eye. They are her original eyes and looked good, so she kept them. Her dress and Organdy blouse/onsie are reproduction made from Vintage fabrics Patterned after a original dress. The hat looks is very similar Vintage to the original. Good vintage black snap shoes. I have other beauties listed, so please take a look. Please look at all the pictures. There are good & clear close-ups. The item has been photographed well. The pictures are part of the description & support both the description and condition of the item. You have the option to use the magnification feature as well. Sometimes these 50-80 year old dolls just dont survive the test of time very well. Finding a skilled restorationist is as hard to find as the rare doll itself. This is a ART. A labor of love & mostly a lot of sanding. With these collectible pieces, I have done my best to keep the doll looking as original as possible when the doll was factory made (not what a 80 year old faded doll looks like). With that being said, These are still Vintage & Antique dolls. Composition especially has a lot of factory nuances that other materials do not have. Their imperfections are part of the charm of composition. This doll has been repaired if needed, and eyes will be clear and a appropriate color. There will be no missing fingers or toes. I use paints which are very similar to the ones used by the factory. The overhaul process includes stripping, filling, sanding, priming, airbrush painting, hand painted features & sealing. I pay special attention to the faces and they are completely smooth. I have been a skilled Artist all my life. My attention to detail of the painted features is expert. Fabulous composition, closed mouth Jane Withers – friend (or perhaps nemesis) to Shirley Temple. She has some crazing various places on her face, but not noticable on display. Crazing is practically a given with composition. You either love it or run from it. There’s an indentation spot on the back of her arm that looks to have been from the factory or perhaps a repair by someone (not me). I made her little beret, as she would likely have had one. I also bought the book separately, to go with her. Polished canvas shoes are wonderful, but someone put an inventory sticker on the sole of one. When I try to remove, it starts to tear the sole. I’m going to remove it and repair any discoloration. The little dress is lovely in color brightness and condition. I only see some scattered holes in her white cotton onesie (slip and attached panties). Jane’s mohair wig is perfection! It still retains its waves and curls. It’s almost a wine color. 20 all Original Jane Withers Child Star doll, in unplayed with condition, Alexander Jane Withers doll, composition with socket head, sleep eyes, real lashes, open mouth, row of teeth, Super full and softbrunette mohair curled wig, in original set, jointing at shoulders and hips. The doll is wearing her original dainty dress with pink organdy yoke and sleeves, flowered cream cotton attached pinafore. Muslin slip and panties, socks, side-snap white shoes, extremely hard to find, wovenp pale pink hat with pink banding. The dress has original cloth tag Jane Withers/. She is in wonderful condition, some crazing on the legs with the worse on the inside of both legs an open line down the length of both, they have been stablized with craze control so they display very well , the arms have some craze but minor, there is a small craze line below both eyes see pics, this is common with these Janes, but her is very minor compaired to the usual crazing. Her eyes are both crazed, Original dress has some soiling from display but its still crisp, could be laundered, no damage or rips.
