BEAUTIFUL RARE “MAGGIE” WALKER 18 MADAME ALEXANDER DOLL! 1951 MAGGIE WALKER “ALL DRESSED UP” IN TAGGED PINK DRESS & TAGGED SWING COAT W/ MATCHING BLACK VELVET BERET HAT! I have never seen another Maggie Doll like this HARD PLASTIC DESIGNER DOLL! There is a photo on page 86 of the book MADAME ALEXANDER’S COLLECTOR’S DOLLS by Patricia Smith—of AN 18″ MAGGIE WALKER DOLL WEARING AN IDENTICAL DRESS with LACE POCKET HANKIE—but without the ORIGINAL BLACK VELVET BERET & DESIGNER “SWING COAT with MATCHING BLACK VELVET COLLAR & CUFFS! SCHWARZ, BLOOMINGDALE’S, NEIMAN-MARCUS, SAKS FIFTH AVENUE, and SEARS & ROEBUCK. These dolls often had elaborate designer limited edition outfits. THIS BEAUTIFUL 18″ HARD PLASTIC MAGGIE WALKER DOLL CAME TO ME WEARING THIS COMPLETE TAGGED MADAME ALEXANDER OUTFIT: HER BEAUTIFUL STRUTTING PINK DRESS with “white” FAILLE COLLAR & CUFFS, BLACK VELVET ORIGINAL BERET, and BEAUTIFUL MATCHING “SWING COAT with DESIGNER BLACK VELVET COLLAR & FLARED CUFFS (like dress) closed with TWO ORIGINAL COVERED BUTTONS—beautifully lined in SHEER PINK SILK! (some threads from seams have unraveled but the only way to get them out from under the sheer lining would be to unstitch a seam—the seams are so tight and beautifully sewn so straight with very tiny stitches, Maggie and I just choose to “not see” these stray threads). I JUST FOUND HER TAG ON HER COAT—IT WAS ROLLED UP UNDER HER VELVET COLLAR at the very back! I adopted SWEET MAGGIE from her ORIGINAL OWNER who told me MAGGIE IS DRESSED IN HER ORIGINAL HAT, COAT, DRESS, SHOES & SOCKS—just like she came to me. I have no reason to doubt her. THIS IS ONE GORGEOUS GIRL—A DESIGNER DOLL—A RARE BEAUTY! Perhaps this explains why this set is rarely seen today. As soon as Miss Maggie arrived in my Doll Room, she introduced herself to other Madame Alexander Beauties. And then she met my 1971 JACQUELINE PORTRAIT “GODEY” DOLL wearing a BEAUTIFUL BLACK VELVET BONNET with SILK FLORALS and WIDE PINK SATIN RIBBON TIES. Miss Maggie took one look at her and asked to “try on” her bonnet, looking in the mirror saying, THIS BONNET FRAMES MY FACE! I SHOULD HAVE WORN THIS! I didn’t have the heart to tell her that she would have had to wait 20 years for THIS “GODEY” BONNET TO BE DESIGNED. But I just happened to have this Vintage Bonnet in my DOLL BOUTIQUE (without the original doll). MISS MAGGIE SAW IT AND SAID THERE IT IS—IT’S MINE! And NOW IT IS! THIS BONNET IS NOT MINT—the silk florals have aged and there are some small dark marks like pen ink? On the ribbon—but Maggie just tied it so they don’t show and she is perfectly happy wearing it. BOTH HER ORIGINAL BLACK VELVET BERET & THIS 1971 GODEY VELVET BONNET ARE INCLUDED WITH HER. Her original belt was missing, so Miss Maggie chose “BLACK VELVET, PLEASE, WITH DIAMONDS” so “yours truly” designed the belt she now wears. SO IN ESSENCE THIS BEAUTIFUL MAGGIE WALKER DOLL is ACTUALLY A “ONE-OF-A-KIND BEAUTY”—with her NEW BELT & “NEW” BONNET! She wears original lace trimmed panties that tend to be caught inside her hip joints from “walking”. HER WALKER MECHANISM WORKS WELL with her head turning when she takes “steps”. IN HER ORIGINAL BLACK OILCLOTH SNAP SHOES with BOTH HEELS INTACT—her shoes have “worn with age”, at the back especially—I actually “stitched” one with needle & black thread to mend the worn cloth to keep the shoe “together”. The front of the shoes look quite intact. My best guess is in “walking” the back of the one shoe was “rubbing” on metal doll stand. I have tied only one foot to her doll stand, leaving her “worn” shoe free from rubbing against stand. I have not undressed this doll so I cannot speak to the quality of her torso or arms. But I believe her body has been “protected” by her original attire so it should be even color. One leg has very slightly less color than the other leg probably from exposure to light over the years being on display (nowadays we know sunshine is harmful to hard plastic). With minimal age marks from “wear and tear”. AND THIS DOLL SITS BEAUTIFULLY! HER LEGS LOCK INTO PLACE FOR SEATED POSITION, and the pop back into standing position. THIS DOLL APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN WELL LOVED AND WELL CARED FOR. HER DESIGNER “SWING COAT” IS A STYLE MADAME ALEXANDER USED FOR HER “CISSY” DOLLS IN 1955 AS “SEPARATES” OR “BOXED EXTRA” and are HTF (hard to find) or VHTF (very hard to find) according to Kiley Shaw’s newest book CISSY! ” (beginning on page 181 “By Year section). But NONE OF THEM HAD A BLACK VELVET COLLAR AND CUFFS like MISS MAGGIE’S—BEAUTIFUL IN BLACK & PINK! WHOSE SWING COAT, I STILL BELIEVE, IS NOT COMMONLY SEEN—BUT IS “HTF” HARD TO FIND these seventy years later. Miss Maggie is wearing a new custom made multi-tiered white nylon petticoat with pastel pink trim—for extra skirt strut. MISS MAGGIE HAS VIVID ORIGINAL FACE COLOR: RUBY RED LIPS, “FEVER” PINK CHEEKS, hand painted DOUBLE STROKE BROWS, & SIGNATURE LONG UNDER EYE LASHES. I have a hunch Madame Alexander may have released this Beauty with the intention of making her “Princess” outfits for years to come—but suddenly without warning—Princess Elizabeth becomes QUEEN ELIZABETH on February 6, 1952. It is a very intriguing possibility. IN ANY EVENT, I WILL LET YOU DECIDE IF MISS MAGGIE IS PRETTY AS A PRINCESS IN PINK! THE QUEEN’S JEWELS by Leslie Field, page 17. In 2006, Linda Crowsey valued this Glamour Girl Doll at 2,200—quite a Royal Price, page 188 of the book MADAME ALEXANDER DOLLS 1948–1965. PINK & BLACK VELVET—A ROYAL COMBINATION—USED SPARINGLY BUT VERY WELL by MADAME ALEXANDER. Madame Alexander Dionne Quintuplet dolls. Rare with their original swing which has the original tarp. Even more rare is that their outfits match to the swing’s tarp. All dolls are composition with painted faces. All dolls are marked Alexander. The swing is wood with cloth canopy. From the estate of a dollhouse museum / children’s charity founder. All has wear from age and being displayed. Stringing is good on all of them. Notice how they all have a little split right around their nose upper lip region, from the material and manufacture. They will clean up nicely. Tarp needs a little cleaning. One of the swing’s joints has come separated, not broken or anything like that, looks like it is because of the way it was built. Approximate measurements: all five dolls 7″: swing 17.5″ length X 12.25″ height X 8.5″ depth. Items paid for on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday will not be mailed until at least Monday. This swing is very hard to find Measure 10″ H x13″L. Very displayable item shown with Wendy kin + Cissette but they are not included just to show you how it will display. Condition: Vinyl is really nice its soft no stiff and no major flaws in it. Fringe is all there is has some soiling/age some pieces need to be brush down its minor. Metal works there is small areas of tarnish and rust specs but its here and there not all over and mostly on the back side of the chair and bottom. Nothing broken or missing.
