RARE Composition Madame Alexander Dr. Dafoe and Nurse Yvonne Leroux. Dafoe doll is 14 and represents the famed doctor of the Dionne Quintuplets. He was made by Madame Alexander in 1935 and unmarked, although his uniform is tagged. Nurse Leroux is 13 and also unmarked. Each have swivel heads, and jointed arms/legs with painted eyes (except Nurse with sleep eyes). The doctor has grey mohair wig and highly characterize smiling kindly expression. The nurse has a sweet disposition and blond wig. Condition of each is good to very good for age. Some usual wear with composition dolls, outfits a bit yellowed, socks may be original on each but shoes look to have been replaced. Some minor crazing or nicks may be in some places, joints a little floppy or loose on each, but poseable. The stand is included with the Nurse. This is a beautiful doll that is in lovely shape to be the age that she is. Her neck is marked ALEXANDER 36. Underneath that is 59. I can find no manufacture markings on her body. Her dress is tagged Madame Alexander “Janie”. I believe it to be original for her. She is near perfect…. A small light freckle on her left leg just above her socks on her left leg there is a pink area there and one pink area on the upper thigh of the other leg and one in the center of her back just above her waist. I tried to show these in the pictures but the one her back didn’t show in the picture, so I didn’t use it. She has a tiny blue spot at the leg joint where it joins to the torso part of the body. Her hair is bright and shiny and seems to be clean. I’m unsure about the un-even part of the length (But I see the same thing on the Ideal 36 dolls). Her bangs are very nice and full. All of the plugs of her hair seem to be filled and good. Her face has a nice amount of color to her facial features. Light rosy color to cheeks… Eyebrows are beautifully arched and nice color. Lips have full color. Lashes are full and none are missing. Blue eyes with very slight greenish color match her dress. I have tried to describe her to the best of my ability. I’ve looked her over from head to toe and I’m impressed with the 57 year old doll. Her little black patent shoes have McKids incised on the soles. They fit her very well. I’m sure they are a replacement. They are new and in like new condition. Panties are a cotton knit (with a small hole on the inside crotch lining- doesn’t show on the outside) and I’m sure they are a replacement. The socks are a replacement, because they are not 100% cotton. The dress is original to the doll and it is tagged Madame Alexander Janie. It is a turquoise blue with a white Peter Pan collar, with a continuous line of buttons, down the back of the dress and 2 buttons on the front for a buttoned on apron of turquoise and white stripe. All buttons are there. They are buttons of that era and I’m sure they are original. The elastic on the puffed sleeves has been replaced. (not a perfect job), but the sleeves are puffed as they should be. There is one thing to note…. There are some spots on the back of the waist of the dress that have a discoloration. Not extremely noticeable, but they are there. I tried to wash and they didn’t come out. Take a look at the very last picture. I starched and ironed the dress and apron. This is a vintage Madame Alexander Wendy-Kins (or Alexanderkins) 8 Nurse doll, still in her original box. The brochure that is included does not use zip codes, so this dates it to pre-1963. The doll is a hard plastic, bent-knee walker. She has a blonde wig and dark blue sleep eyes. Her nurses uniform consists of a white cotton, short-sleeved dress with a white cotton pinafore on top that ties in the back. The Madame Alexander Alexander-kins tag is sewn on the inside of the dress. Also included is a nurse’s hat that has navy trim sewn to the brim. She has beige fuzzy tie shoes and white socks. She has a plastic baby. Dressed in a lace gown and cap, tied to her wrist. I did not undress the doll for pictures, because it appears that the clothes have never been removed. The ties on the pinafore and the shoes look original. Clothes have original crispness. A Madame Alexander brochure of other dolls available is included. There is also a white cloth that looks like a doll bed sheet that was folded in the bottom of the box. It has a tag that says Utica. I don’t think this came with the doll, but I will leave it in the box. There is also some white tissue paper inside the box. Doll is in excellent condition and may have been stored in the box all these years. One curl on the wig wants to come loose, but other than that, I don’t see any flaws. Doll is very clean. The box is in fair condition. Sides are dented in and there are tears in the box lid edge. For those who care, items are stored in a non-smoking environment. Mint in Box. This is a beautiful doll with a perfectly styled hair do that is unique to only this outfit. Her hair is shiny and still in crisp perfect curls that frame her face. She has beautiful all original coloring and has a lovely matte finish. Her skin tone is nice and even and she has no stains or cracks to her plastic. Her dress is in excellent condition and is very crisp. It has no stains, holes or odors. Under the dress she wears the correct slip and bloomers. The organdy has darkend from age but the elastic is still nice and tight on both the slip and bloomers. Her black fuzzy bottom side snap shoes and socks are in nice condition and show no wear. However I did notice that some of the sueding has come off from age. She wears a beautiful black hat with flower and fruit adornment. The hat is just excellent and has a wonderful shine to it and the flowers/fruit are all in excellent condition as well. Lastly she wears a pair of beautiful rhinestone earrings that are in excellent condition with lots of shine. She comes in her original box labeled 635 which I believe to be the correct number. The box shows lots of wear but it has kept her safe all these years and is original to her. All together this is an excellent example of this doll that will be a great addition to your collection.
