Ask any questions, look at photos closely. 13 composition Jane Withers doll by Madame Alexander. Marked on back of head Jane Withers Alexander Doll. Single stroke brown eyebrows. Painted black lower lashes. The eyes are crazed, see photo. Few very faint craze lines , see photo. No chipping or flaking. Small chip of composition missing on right neck flange, see photo. Don’t see when heads on right. Fingers and toes intact. Wig is probably a replacement, light brown mohair. Clothes are not original but appropriate. Dress, half slip, panties. Shoes look original, very frail, right shoe is coming apart in back and wear areas. Not sure if socks are originals. I have tried to describe what I see, if I have left something out, ask. Collectors use your own judgement, some of you are experts on these old dolls, I’m no expert! Madame Alexander JANE WITHERS smiling open mouth Version all Composition. Made after the child actress. She was a contemporary of Shirley Temple. Restoration information is in the description Below. Make sure to read it as the information explains the details. When restoring these 75 year old + dolls, great care is taken in having them look like they did when they were mint & new. Color is vibrant, features are complete and great effort has been taken to replicate the originality from the factory. This little girl has clear brown FLIRTY eyes. She is 17 which seems to be a harder to find size? Very nice brunette mohair wig still has pins in the curls and the barrettes. Her clothing is Vintage 40′s era factory dress, coat & hat set. Very cute and in very nice shape. Cotton floral dress with Organdy trim collar and pockets. Not original, but appropriate for her. Please look at all the pictures. There are good & clear close-ups. The item has been photographed well. The pictures are part of the description & support both the description and condition of the item. You have the option to use the magnification feature as well. Sometimes these 50-80 year old dolls just dont survive the test of time very well. Finding a skilled restorationist is as hard to find as the rare doll itself. This is a ART. A labor of love & mostly a lot of sanding. With these collectible pieces, I have done my best to keep the doll looking as original as possible when the doll was Mint. With that being said, These are still Vintage & Antique dolls. Composition especially has a lot of factory nuances that other materials do not have. The doll will not be over strung too tightly. This doll has been repaired if needed, and eyes will be clear and a appropriate color. There will be no missing fingers or toes. I use paints which are very similar to the ones used by the factory. The overhaul process includes stripping, filling, sanding, priming, airbrush painting, hand painted features & sealing. I pay special attention to the faces and they are completely smooth. I have been a skilled Artist all my life. My attention to detail of the painted features is expert. This is a very rare Madame Alexander Barbara Jane doll. Barbara Jane was made only during 1952. She is a 29 vinyl doll with a cloth body. Her limbs and her head are both stuffed, so she is a substantial doll. Barbara Jane is in very good to excellent vintage condition. Her face coloring is very bright and deep, and her brown sleep eyes have full lashes and work well. Her vinyl limbs are clean and unmarked, except for a tiny mark that look like it might have been caused by ink on her right arm, and another one on the outside of her right pinky finger. There are also dark marks that are about an inch long and half an inch wide on the back of both of her calves. These marks look exactly like bruises. Other than these small flaws, her body looks just about perfect. Her cloth torso is also clean and in excellent condition. She is wearing her complete, original tagged outfit, which consists of a red checked dress, a white linen pinafore with red rosettes pinned to the pockets, a full, white cotton slip and panties, rayon socks, and very cool, open-toed shoes that look like real leather, although I think they are probably vinyl. Her clothing is clean and in very good vintage condition. The only damage I could find on it anywhere was a small vertical rip about 1.5 long right at the waistline of her pinafore. This is visible in the photos. One of the rosettes on her pinafore is also a replacement, because the original rosette fell to pieces when I was undressing her to take pictures. Barbara Jane’s wig may also be a replacement. I found a red wig that is similar in style and color to the one that she is wearing pinned to the underside of her dress. So, I think someone may have replaced her wig at one point and preserved the original by pinning it to her dress. The original wig is brittle and is missing a lot of hair in the front, but I will, of course, include it with the doll. This is a very hard to find Alexander doll, and this one is in fantastic condition for her age. Don’t miss out on the chance to add this little girl to your collection. Marked Baby Jane MME Alexander. The doll was made to represent Juanita Quigley, a 1930′s celebrity child film star. The doll features a brown wig, brown glass sleep eyes with full and painted upper lashes, an open mouth with four teeth and blushing dimpled cheeks. Her eyes look cloudy. The doll features a jointed neck, shoulder and hip. The doll is dressed in the original dress with a braided lace collar, pink ribbon. She also has a one piece slip – underpants, original socks and shoes. The button is pinned on the dress with a photo of Juanita Quigley, the button says, The nations favorite. A baby Jane doll. This listing is for one of my dear friends treasured dolls. This is her Jane Withers. Doll by Madame Alexander. So let me tell you what I know about this Jane Withers doll. She was made by Madame Alexander in 1937. She measures 13 inches tall. She is all composition. No markings that I could find. The clothes I do not think are not original. But look appropriate on her. They are home stitched. The wig is mused but full. There are some cracks coming down and going up from her eyes. Her eyes are crackled. There is a hole and a Crack on the back of her leg. There is crazing on her legs. There are some white spots in her face.. Not sure what they are but they are shown in the photos. Socks are replacements but shoes are old. They are worn especially the left one. So while she isn’t a perfect or mint doll she is pretty and displays well. She does have some cracks and crazing. My friend bought her dolls for pleasure and not as an investment… Believed dolls deserve respect for just having survived the years of play and love of their small owners. They brought her such joy and we hope they continue to do so in their new homes. Please ask questions if there is anything I haven’t covered.
