Madame Alexander Dolls

Born in 1955, “Cissy Walks the Dog” is one of the early Cissy dolls from Madame Alexander. Dressed for a stroll down Park Avenue with her little pooch, she is in her complete and correct outfit, plus a few additions. The veiling on her hat is just awesome, and she is wearing a perfect wool jersey top with no moth damage. It is extremely difficult to find those tops without holes. This one does not have its Cissy tag, but is undeniably original. She will come to you with two skirts, and I’ll explain further down in the description. Her slip and panties are unwashed and still have crispness. Their original rayon-rubber elastic has been replaced by a prior owner, so no sagging waists in either. She has her excellent Cissy hose and the correct hot pink high heels with great elastic. Oh yes, and she has her pale blue tied-on pearls and “diamond” ring. And not to forget the pooch on a black velvet leash. Additions to her outfit are a black velveteen purse with gold chain handle and a vintage fur wrap that color matches with her top very well. The wrap has a clip on the underside for fastening purposes. I don’t know if it’s original or replicated, but it will be included with the doll. THE DOLL: Cissy had never been undressed in all the time I’ve had her, but I needed to do so to check everything out. She has no cracks in her hard plastic and no tears in her vinyl. She has original blush on her hands and knees, and her coloring is uniform. Her facial features all look to be original. She has lovely cheek blush, pretty blue eyes that open and close, good lip color, good brows and all of her brush and painted lashes. Her stringing is good and probably original, and her joints all work. I really don’t see any rubs on the inside of the legs at the top, which is rather remarkable. I don’t think she has been handled much during her lifetime. I have never done anything to alter it. I’m pretty sure this Cissy has the additional wig cap incorporated with her wig. I think the ones from 1955 were the only Cissy dolls that had this. She’s 20 inches tall and has joints at the head, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. A pretty girl–even in the nude. THE SKIRTS: When this Cissy became part of my collection, I took her out of her original velveteen skirt and used instead a “Walks the Dog” skirt that I already had. This was done simply because I though the magenta waistband and jewel embellishments were prettier on my skirt. She was then put in her spot in the doll cabinet. When I began taking photos for the listing several weeks back, a small disaster occurred when removing the skirt from Cissy. I was trying to undo the snap that was in the placket of the skirt. Even using my fingernails, it was very contrary, and when I finally got it open, I somehow had caused a tear in the velveteen right alongside the seam binding of the placket. But a kind, sympathetic and very skilled seamstress came to my rescue (or Cissy’s) and did a great repair job. So Cissy is still in my preferred skirt, but her original skirt, which has no problems, will come along with her. And it doesn’t have a pesky snap in the placket to deal with. I have pictures of her original skirt if you request them. I have also been advised that the fabric Alexander used in these particular skirts tends to become fragile over time. THE HAT: As mentioned earlier, the hat has wonderful veiling. It also has the little black metal decoration on the back. The hat has its original thin black elastic chin strap which has lost some stretch. It can be put under her hair in the back for some stabilization or not used at all. Once the doll is in place, the hat will stay on her head with no problems. I feel like the little strap is fragile and shouldn’t be stressed. If you’re in the market for a “Cissy Walks the Dog, ” you would have to look a long time to find one this nice. She’s incredible at the age of 65. Vintage Madame Alexander composition doll. Stunning doll but not mint! Personally, I would say very good condition but when you pull out the fine tooth comb there are flaws with her being 70 some odd years old (we all have them haha), Owner did have minor crazing repair done and re-stringing, it’s been many years (she tells me back when yahoo groups were all the rage)! Stringing is still very good! Her coat and bonnet have the flaws, the lining on the coat is torn and the bonnet has a small hole in the back and fading. I pictured all the flaws I found so take a good look at each picture. The only thing I didn’t get to upload due to the picture limit was the bottom of her shoes the soles are here but are worn, message me if you would like the picture of them. Doll had been kept in a large display cabinet for the later part of her life but her early life she was held and loved. So, in short if you are looking for perfection this is not the doll for your collection, If you are looking for a beautiful vintage doll with quirks, this girl may be a perfect addition to your collection. I know it is just so hard to visualize the size/girth of a doll with just regular measurements so I thought this. 16oz Cola bottle, like the kind from a vending machine. It is not included. Vintage 1940s Madame Alexander Scarlett O’Hara Doll 18 Composition Doll. This old vintage doll is in very good overall condition. She features a wig of long black hair and green sleepy eyes. She has real lashes but she is missing a few on her left eye. Her eyes are clear and not cracked. They open and close as they should. She has single stroke painted brows and a closed bow mouth. Her composition is in very good condition but not perfect. There is a crack to her right foot, a scuff to her back and some light crazing to her body. Luckily her face is virtually free from visible crazing or cracking. Her stringing is good. She can stand and balance independently and hold a pose. She has all of her fingers and toes. She is wearing a vintage homemade green antebellum dress with crocheted trim and intricately made undergarments. Her green dress is very well made but somewhat faded from the sun. The rest of her outfit consists of matching green pantaloons, a custom 2 layer petticoat with detachable bustle, a straw sun bonnet and black leatherette shoes with bows. For sale is Cissy’s HTF tagged taffeta dress and bolero from 1957, along with an adorable pillbox hat, Premier suede purse with rhinestone detail and hankie, black nylon gloves, and a vintage watch with band to match the dress. This dress and bolero is usually referred to as navy, but I see it as a sapphire blue. There is a beautiful sequin decoration on the bolero closure that really dazzles. All snaps are secure. I have had this outfit for some time, but never displayed it. There is some wrinkling from storage, so a light press would be beneficial. The outfit is in excellent condition. The rhinestones on the Premier purse are bright and sparkly. A lace-trimmed nylon hankie peeks out from one side. The gloves are not vintage. They have never been used. The pillbox hat is black straw with black velvet trim around the perimeter. It formerly had some little rhinestones on the front until my granddaughter managed to pop them off. I replaced them with a grosgrain bow that can be worn to the front, either side, or back–whatever pleases you. The hat is a Richard Original with the aforementioned change. The little watch is on its original card and was never intended to be removed before it went on the doll that would wear this outfit. The blue band matches the dress so well. A Cissy doll is modeling the outfit (minus the watch) in the last two pictures, but she, her shoes, and stand are not included in this listing. This is a very striking outfit for your Cissy. Here I have a beautiful 20 inch Madame Alexander Maggie Polly Pigtails Walker doll in very nice condition. She has no breaks or cracks and no odors. Her walking mechanism works fine. This Alexander-kins straight leg walker doll was probably never played with. Here is an example of our favorite type of Wend-kins outfits. She is so adorable in her 1955 School Dress (tag missing), #444 pictured in Patricia Smiths World of Alexander-kins published 1985, on page 44. Not only at the waist, but also much amplified at the hem. The Kelly green dress with ric rac at the neck & matching panties are of sturdy cotton, with square snaps of course. Her rich auburn triple-stitched wig in a curly flip-style with bangs is shiny & perfect, as are the painted features & color of her face. The eyes appear very dark deep Navy blue until turned sideways in a bright lightthen you can see a pale blue iris. Her green straw hat has a pink ribbon & bow to match the dress. The rayon sox & white velveteen snap-over shoes complete the original ensemble. There are no scratches, stains, splits, nor cracks on the well-strung mint body that is marked “ALEX” on back, which includes a working walker mechanism. Her head turns freely when the legs move. The clothes are all original & excellent, with one minor addition of newer elastic thread hand stitched around the panties original stretched waist band. It can easily be removed if desired, but is actually invisible from outside. She is a lovely example of a well preserved & beloved Wendy doll.
